Bahagian Pasukan Simpanan (BPS)

History of Establishment

The Army Reserve Forces Division (BPS) operates under the command of the Army Headquarters and is responsible for matters related to the Army Reserve Forces (PSTD). BPS does not have any units under its direct command. All Askar Wataniah (AW) units are placed under the command of their respective local Formation Headquarters. BPS exercises technical authority only in matters concerning planning and development, training, administration, legal affairs, logistics, and finance

In line with the nation’s requirements for the expansion of the Army, the volunteer forces were reorganised through the enactment of legislation. TA Ordinance, TA (Terms of Services) Regulation 1959 dan TA (Pay and Allowance) Rules 1959.

The development of the Askar Wataniah (AW) progressed rapidly with the increase in personnel, which in turn created a need for additional officer and enlisted positions to ensure the smooth administration and management of AW. This administration encompassed control and management of voluntary membership, training, finance, discipline, logistics, mobilisation, as well as corps and regimental matters. This development led to the establishment of the Askar Wataniah Directorate (Jabatanarah AW – JAW) in 1978 with a staffing strength of 11 officers. JAW was subsequently reorganised to function more effectively as a Reserve Forces Branch (Cawangan Pasukan Simpanan – CPS), in line with its actual roles and responsibilities. However, this ad hoc CPS arrangement continued to retain its staffing structure in accordance with FED (M)/3024 (B) 15/79. Accordingly, CPS was restructured into the Army Reserve Forces Division (Bahagian Pasukan Simpanan – BPS) on 1 January 1994 in order to realise the National Defence Policy
